I was asked to choose a patron saint
For my confirmation name...
One with whom I could identify,
Who would understand the same.
I studied all: From virgin martyrs,
To humble wives and servile women;
Since I was neither, the obvious choice
Had to be strong, brave Mary Magdalene.
The good priest's eyes widened,
His jaw instantly dropped;
"She was God's favorite!"
He blurted (just a bit abrupt).
I quivered with sudden chagrin,
Asking, "Did I make a mistake?"
"Oh, no!" he quickly replied,
"That's the very best name to take!"
I'm not really sure what happened...
There's only one thing that I know:
From the moment I took that name
My spirit truly began to grow.
