It was our anniversary,
But we were pretty broke;
To even gas up cash was low,
And our savings was a joke.
I hit upon a workable plan:
Pleasing spouse wouldn't be hard;
We would picnic on a blanket
I spread out in the back yard.
I proceeded to place upon it
French bread, cheese, and wine,
Along with some fresh fruits,
To complete a repast fine.
The neighbors made themselves scarce,
Perhaps out of courtesy.
We sat, and dined in absolute peace
In the shade of a cherry tree.
