We The People
Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf,
And what really disappointed me
Was our government's slow response
To a crisis in this 'Land of the Free'.
The appalling tales and pictures
Completely staggered my mind.
I wondered how much worse it would be;
How many more horrors we'd find.
But what uplifted my spirit,
And brought gladness to my heart
Is how many U.S. citizens
Stepped up to do their part.
First to rally, first to help
The unfortunate among Man;
We, The People, will carry on...
Proud, strong, and American!
